The Screenshot Test: Build Posts That Travel
A founder in Austin posts on LinkedIn Tuesday morning. By Thursday, his words are on X, in three Slack channels, and in a WhatsApp group in Lagos. He never posted in any of them. Someone screenshotted him.
Most sharing happens off-platform. People screenshot, crop, and send. The platform counts none of it. Your reach is bigger than your dashboard shows, and the posts that travel farthest share one trait. They work as an image.
Here's the test.
Screenshot your draft. Send it to yourself. Read it with zero context. If it holds up, you have a post that travels.
1/ Put the whole idea above the fold
A screenshot captures one screen. If your point lands on line twelve, the crop cuts it off.
Lead with the claim. Support it below.
2/ Make it readable without your name
When a screenshot lands in a group chat, nobody knows who you are. The post has to earn attention on the words alone.
Write the first line as if a stranger will judge it. They will.
3/ Leave a signature inside the text
Your profile gets cropped, so plant your name or company in the copy itself. A line like "I run a 12-person agency" rides along in the image.
The credit survives the trip.
4/ Give the sender a reason
People screenshot to say something to someone. "This is us." "Told you." "Read this before the call."
Write posts that finish a sentence the sender is already thinking.
Your dashboard measures the room. Screenshots measure the world.
Write for the trip.
